Everyone Wins at the B&E Inventational

The first-ever B&E Inventational, a collaborative effort between Henrik Harlaut, Phil Casabon, Raf Regazzoni, Eric Iberg and Les Arcs, France went down this April and I was lucky to be on hand. B-Dog and E-Dollo invited some of the styliest riders around the planet including legends like Liam Downey and Dave Crichton to ski their one-of-a-kind course. Here are some photos, and an article I wrote for ESPN: http://xgames.espn.go.com/skiing/article/10743279/torin-yater-wallace-wins-first-inventational Candide Thovex and Ahmet Dadali, influences from different continents and generations, ready...

From Russia with Love

  • February 15, 2014

Hey everyone, Greetings from Sochi, Russia where I'm currently on assignment for the ski website Newschoolers.com to cover the freeskiing events, halfpipe and slopestyle, that are debuting at the XXII Olympic Winter Games. Needless to say it's been quite a ride so far! I've been having a blast getting into the Olympic spirit and learning as much as I can about this area, the people, and of course about the competitions and the skiers skiing in them. I'll be providing regular reports not only about the freeskiing events, but also about the experience of these Russian Games. Here are a few links...

Euro X Games Tignes

  • April 7, 2013

I spent a few days last week in the French resort of Tignes, host of the European Winter X Games.  While enjoying the Games I caught up with Sammy Carlson about his win in the first X Games "Real Ski Backcountry" video competition in an interview for Freeskier. I also wrote an article for Newschoolers.com covering all of the action at Euro X.

“World Cup” Slopestyle?

  • February 11, 2013

Last week I went to check out my first FIS World Cup slopestyle event. I wasn't sure what to expect seeing as even the idea of a "World Cup slopestyle" is still very new. The International Ski Federation (FIS) is moving rapidly to absorb slopestyle and halfpipe skiing into its gargantuan beaurocracy in preparation for these sports' Olympic debut next year in Sochi. The question is whether FIS has any clue how to organize, execute and judge a world-class slopestyle or halfpipe event. The Silvaplana slopestyle gave me some insight into the whole "FIS slopestyle" debacle. Although the level...

Red Bull Linecatcher

  • January 21, 2013

I just got back from what turned out to be a weeklong trip to Les Arcs, France for the Red Bull Linecatcher event. With endless steep freeride terrain, perfect powder, and a gaggle of great skiers to ride with, this trip and this competition were incredible experiences! Here's my report and photo gallery from the event on Freeskier.com.

Innsbruck iF3

  • October 8, 2012

I got a special treat for my birthday this year: the chance to finally attend an International Freeskiing Film Festival! I first met Felix Rioux just before he started iF3 in Montreal; now, seven years later, it's hard to believe that his dream of a freeskiing film festival has become a highly successful reality not just at home in Montreal, but at expansion events across the globe. When I heard that the Festival had made it all the way to Innsbruck, Austria for its debut in German-speaking territory, I had to go check it out. Here' the story.

2012 Freestyle.ch Festival in Zürich

  • September 24, 2012

Each fall the city of Zürich, Switzerland hosts a unique festival called Freestyle.ch. I hit the ground for Freeskier to get the scoop on one of Europe's premiere city big air events. Phil Casabon floats a huge rodeo 720 stalefish at the Freestyle.ch big air.
